Uganda Trees (Information Leaflet)

It describes 77 indigenous trees growing in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania & others African Countries.

For each species the botanical & English names are completed with Uganda vernacular names & one picture for easy identification. The bio-physical limits in which the tree occur in their natural environment & the conservation state based on Uganda Conservation List. I established the flowering & fruiting periods, witch are not cut clear cut & should be taken with precaution, change of climate and weather patterns can influence this periods.

A short description with the major botanical features explained in layman language completed by detailed fruit & seed. The reasons why we love and care for this trees, the products & especially the services they provide to us humans but also very important to the environment. Why otherwise we should plant trees.

The data provided on propagation is collected based on Uganda circumstances( literature, experience, personal  communication). Here we start with how to collect the fruits & how to extract the seeds. If the seeds can be stored or to be sown immediately (Orthodox, Intermediate, Recalcitrant). The germination method, with pretreatment and in case witch one or without, direct sowing in nursery bags or seedbeds. The germination period and expected germination rate of a good batch of seeds is established,   except for a few species as NA (Not Assessed), maybe some user can inform us on their experiences to complete the App? Number of seeds by kilogram & in case how many months of years & in witch conditions you can store the seeds.

Interest in propagate and plant trees by yourself. To avoid some mistakes, some basic management criteria are summarized so at the end of many years of efforts you like to see the results. Like which types of soils the trees prefers, soil conditions, sun or shade planted, pruning techniques who can be applied & what are the ideal planting distances.
